“Chronicle of History” exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev at the National Carpet Museum of Azerbaijan

According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, in connection with the declaration of 2023 the “Year of Heydar Aliyev”, on May 5, the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum presented the exhibition “Chronicle of History” and the documentary film “Our National Wealth” to the public.
Dr. Shirin Melikova, the Director of the National Carpet Museum of Azerbaijan, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, People’s Artist Murad Huseynov, General Secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO of the Republic of Azerbaijan Seymur Fataliyev and coordinator of the Baku Yunus Amre Institute Selchuk Karakilich spoke at the opening.
Shirin Melikova is the author of the idea of the carpet with deep philosophical meaning and original composition, displayed in the "Chronicle of History" exhibition, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, whose quote “I have been always proud and I am proud today of being Azerbaijani” is the leitmotif of this craft sample, woven in the museum’s Traditional Technologies Department. The artistic structure of the carpet symbolically reflects the great attention and care, paid by the genius personality to the Azerbaijani culture, national heritage, and especially the carpet art throughout different periods while Heydar Aliyev was in office. The tree, which is the main element of this unique artwork is presented as a symbol of our roots and lineage.
The carpet “Chronicle of History”, woven by the museum weavers, based on the sketch by Taryer Bashirov, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, is created using woolen and silk threads of 100 shades.
The exhibition will also feature a video projection in order to emphasize the images and ornaments of carpet’s rich composition. The viewers will behold the animation video of Gobustan Rock Art, hunting scenes, national “Yalli” dance, elder Dede Korkut, national hero Koroghlu, Azerbaijani tricolor flag, samani, the main attribute of Novruz Holiday, buta, the main symbol of fire, saint tree, quotes from the outstanding philosopher Nizami Ganjavi’s poem and a statement by a genius leader Heydar Aliyev.
Also, a documentary film entitled “Our National Heritage” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was presented at the exhibition. The documentary, reflecting Heydar Aliyev’s great attention and care for every field in our country, including culture, art, as well as Azerbaijani carpet art is created with the use of rare video footage and photo chronicle from different sources. The film features videos about outstanding carpet artists Latif Karimov Kamil Aliyev, and the First International Symposium on Eastern Carpet Art, held in Baku in 1983.
The author of the documentary idea, created by ANCM is Dr. Shirin Melikova, Honored Cultural Worker. The film is directed by Mubariz Naghiyev.
The exhibition is open to residents and guests of our city from May 6.
