Historical – ethnographic museum was commenced to its public activity by initiative of the intellectual of the region Taghiyev Rahim Karim on 1963. Formerly, museum items were exhibited in Hishkadara village secondary school. Museum has been acting free of charge, without any state expense on public basis, and exhibition items were obtained without any state means.
Building for historical – ethnographic museum was constructed in 1976 and museum was awarded with state status in accordance with order N: 283 dated 13.08.1977 of the Soviet of Ministers and order N: 299 dated 16.09.1977 of the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan Republic. Official opening of Masalli region historical – ethnographic museum was held in Hishkadara village in 1978.
There are more than 7 thousands of valuable exhibition items reflecting the history of the region in the fund of museum.
Fund and collections of the museum consist of painting, graphics, architecture, applied art, archeology, ethnography, photos and documents.
Valuable materials collected in the museum almost reflect all historical stages. Archeological findings, household items, labor equipments, jewelry and decorative items, armament, national clothing samples, historical documents
reflect the lifestyle and activity of people and current and development perspective of Masalli region. Profound wishes and opinions of the visitors have been collected in 17 opinion books since the foundation of museum.
Masalli historical – ethnographic museum bears the name of Mr. Rahim since October 2005. In result of wide measures conducted in the sphere of re-construction of museums in the Republic, new building meeting the modern requirements was constructed for Masalli historical – ethnographic museum.
Our well-respected President Mr. Ilham Aliyev issued order for construction of Masalli region Historical – Ethnographic museum on September 2013. We hereby thank our well-respected President for creation of such condition for protection and agitation of the history of our region.
