The Gakh History and Ethnography Museum is a cultural and educational research institution that collects and preserves examples of the region’s historical monuments and natural history collections of the folk art of this particular geographic and admistrative area.
In August of 1981, the Gakh History and Ethnography Museum began operating in the 19th-century Allahverdi Church building, which is located in the center of the city. In June 1991, the Museum moved to a new, partially-connected building. Since then the museum has established a rich collection. (Or: Since then the museum has established an impressive fund.) Some 11,500 historical and scientific objects from Gakh’s 670, 000 year history are preserved, studied, and promoted at the Museum.
Every year thousands of visitors come face to face with the Museum’s exhibits, which are housed in nine rooms over eight halls. In an effort to promote Azerbaijani national culture, the Museum staff have organized ongoing permanent and travelling exhibitions based on their archeological and ethnographic collections.
